Kaplan University Scholarship Program for California Students

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP

Purpose
Potentially enable California residents to complete their bachelor's degree in less time by awarding eligible college credits earned through the experiential learning portfolio course and process.

Awards
Waiver of course fee ($1,500) for EL 203: Portfolio Development. Cost of tuition at time of enrollment still applicable.

Application Information
Students must provide an unofficial college transcript at the time of application and are responsible for requesting that all official college transcripts be submitted to Kaplan University by the end of the first term. Students must fill out a scholarship application form prior to the start of the term in which they enroll in EL 203: Portfolio Development.

Requirements
  • Must be a legal resident of California and submit proof of residency at the time of application. Acceptable proof of residency is a current California driver's license or a California ID Card.
  • Must be a transfer student having earned an associate's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution other than Kaplan University or a Kaplan Higher Education Campuses school.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative college GPA from prior institution.
  • Must be a first-time enrollee in a bachelor's degree program at Kaplan University; continuing students are not eligible.
  • Must meet all current admissions requirements.
  • Must successfully complete a minimum of 10 quarter credit hours, including EL 203, in the term in which EL 203 is taken.
  • Must enroll in EL 203 within the first two terms of the degree program.
  • Must submit an experiential learning portfolio within 30 days of completion of the term in which EL 203 is taken.

Specific Guidelines
Scholarship is awarded to students meeting all eligibility criteria. If approved, the scholarship will be credited at the end of the term in which the student successfully completes EL 203: Portfolio Development in addition to a minimum five quarter-credit-hours course. If not approved, student is still responsible for the tuition cost of the EL 203: Portfolio Development course. Financial aid awards will be adjusted to eliminate any "overaward" so that the total financial aid assistance does not exceed the cost of attendance for the award period as defined by the Financial Aid Office. If a student fails and retakes a course, scholarship money will not be re-awarded for that course. Scholarship recipients are not eligible for other Kaplan University discounts, scholarships, or tuition vouchers, including military and alliance partner discounts. Employees of Kaplan, Inc., and its subsidiaries and their spouses and children are not eligible.

Important Notice
No experiential learning credits are guaranteed through this process. Graduate students are not eligible to submit experiential learning portfolios. Students must complete a minimum of 50 percent of the major requirements for their program, including the capstone course, at Kaplan University.
